Fifteen years of connecting homeowners with the pros worth hiring

Locally owned and operated in Bakersfield since 2011, with a team that has run home-improvement businesses and knows what an ad has to do.

Founded in Bakersfield

Since our first issue the mission has not changed: connect qualified home professionals with local homeowners. After fifteen years and tens of thousands of homeowners connected, the name now says what we do.

Started by Kevin Harrer, a marketer who runs Ugly Duck Marketing, and Jarrett Jamieson, whose own home-improvement companies were the first to prove the model.

How it started, and why it is still here

Two Bakersfield business owners saw that the direct-mail home-improvement magazines working in other markets did not exist here, and that they knew exactly which advertising had worked for their own companies.

2011, Bakersfield

Kevin Harrer came from marketing and runs Ugly Duck Marketing, the agency that still designs the ads and builds the mailing strategy. Jarrett Jamieson owns several local businesses; it was his home-improvement companies, including Perfect Home Products, that pushed him into marketing and proved the model issue after issue.

The Bakersfield edition came first. Fresno/Clovis followed, and in 2026 a third edition launched on the Central Coast.

Home improvement only

The book carries home-improvement businesses and nothing else. It keeps the reader engaged with their home rather than sidetracked, and it means every advertiser is in front of people who are already thinking about the house.

The team

Our art department designs and updates every ad in the book. David Vanderpool directs art for both editions. Each market has its own rep, and the people behind the magazine have run home-improvement companies themselves, so we understand advertising from the contractor's side of the desk.

A new name

In September 2026, Bakersfield Home Magazine became Bakersfield Home Pros and Fresno/Clovis Home Magazine became Fresno/Clovis Home Pros. The new name says what the magazine has always done: connect local homeowners with qualified home professionals.
